Come, let us lie down together...
2005-07-22
Come, let us lie down togetherfor a while; our bodies locked,
two spoons in a silverware drawer.
Legs bent, feet entwined,
the twisted roots of one same ancient tree,
my buttocks nestled
in the curve of your pelvis,
a wave inside a wave.
Come, bend your arm over my chest
and ever so tenderly,
hold my breast in your hand:
a double bowl of milk made of hide.
And I will curve and press my back
against the curly fur of your chest
and I will hold still, listening
to your breath, to the rhythm of your heart,
to the sound of your life next to mine.
Come and be with me. Surround me.
Contain me for a while,
like the dark contains the earth
every night, since the beginning of time.
